Family Day Activities.

The command had its annual Family Day activities. Captain Daniel Huckaby presented the Midlands Chapter 017 Award for Warrant Officer of the Year to CW3 James Honour of Company A, 1BN, 111 AVN. The award was read by the Department of South Carolina President Deborah Orvin SMG (Ret).

The Department of South Carolina was invited to the Family Day activities by the Commander so it could get exposure to the troops and chat with them about the benefits ROA brings to the National Guard Program in South Carolina. A table was setup with several of the soldiers stopping by and chatting with SMG (Ret) Deborah Orvin, Department of South Carolina President and her husband CW5 (Ret) Ray Orvin.

CAPTAIN DENA M. OGDEN, SCARNG (AGR)

OUTSTANDING ARMY RESERVE COMPONENT JUNIOR OFFICER OF THE YEAR (2019)

 Captain Dena M. Ogden, SCARNG (AGR), was recognized as the Midlands Chapter Outstanding Army Reserve Component Junior Officer of the Year during the Midlands Chapter Christmas get together on
 Thursday, 5 December 2019.  She has also been
selected as the
 Department of South Carolina Outstanding Army Reserve
 Component Junior Officer of the Year
and will receive this award
 during the department’s 2020 convention banquet.

 Captain Ogden represented the Department of South Carolina as one
 (1) of eight (8) finalists for the ROA National Outstanding Army
 Reserve Component Junior Officer of the Year
award during the
 2019 national convention.

 Captain Ogden was commissioned into the US Army Quartermaster
 Corps from the South Carolina Army National Guard Officer
 Candidate School (Palmetto Military Academy) in 2019. She is
 currently assigned as the Operations Officer for the 351st Aviation
 Support Battalion, McEntire Air Base, South Carolina Air National
 Guard, Sumter, South Carolina.  Previous assignments include:
 Platoon Leader, Assistant Defense Coordination Officer,
 Transportation Plans Officer, Ammunition Officer, and Company
 Commander.  

 Captain Ogden holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Science.  She has completed the Army Advanced Logistics Course and the Company Pre-Command Course, among other courses.

 Captain Ogden has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/Campaign Star, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/”M” Device, the NATO Medal, the SC Achievement Medal, the SC Palmetto Service Ribbon, and the SC Counter drug Ribbon.  She is a member of the Palmetto Military Academy Hall of Fame.

 Captain Ogden resides in Lexington, South Carolina.

 


 

CAPTAIN AARON I. SMITH, USAR (AGR)

OUTSTANDING ARMY RESERVE COMPONENT JUNIOR OFFICER OF THE YEAR (2019)

“COLONEL ‘BB’ PARKS” CHAPTER 009

DEPARTMENT OF SOUTH CAROLINA

RESERVE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICA

 

 Captain Aaron I. Smith, USAR (AGR), was recognized as the “Colonel ‘BB’ Parks” Chapter Outstanding Army Reserve Component Junior Officer of the Year on Thursday, 5 December 2019.  The award presentation occurred during the Midlands Chapter Christmas get together in Columbia, insomuch as Captain Smith is attending the Adjutant General Corps Career Course at Fort Jackson.  Following completion of the course, Captain Smith will report for Active Guard/Reserve (AGR) duty in Orlando, Florida.

 At the time of Captain Smith’s selection for this award, he
 was serving in Greenville as the fulltime S-1 (AGR) for the
 457th Chemical Battalion, USAR.  Concurrently, he was
 serving as Commander of the 366th Chemical Company,
 USAR, a Troop Program Unit (TPU) assignment th
at
 required him to attend weekend drills, all in addition to his
 duties as the fulltime Battalion S-1.  Upon com
pletion of
 these concurrent assignments, Captain Smith was awarded
 the Army Meritorious Service Medal (MSM).

 Among his other decorations, Captain Smith holds the
 Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and
 the Army Achievement Medal.

 Captain Smith holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and has
 completed the Army Adjutant General Corps Basic Officer
 Leadership Course, the USAR Company Commander’s
 Course, and the Equal Opportunity Leader Course.
