Michael J. McFadden wrote on the Chapter: Minnesota - Flying Viking(030) wall: Flying Viking Chapter Members, Allow me to pass on some fantastic updates in the recent months. First, I encourage you to bring a potential member to the ROA Table at Family Day this UTA. Membership numbers keep these initiatives and issues in front of our elected officials and administration. Big Win in 2016! At the end of 2016 through ROA insistence, Congress passed the Survivor Equity Act that brought parity to the death benefits to Guard and Reserve members who lose their lives in aircraft and other types of incidents. You remember the recent crash of a USMC HC-130? 16 marines lost their--Half were active duty, the other half reservists. If that law had not been passed, the reservist's families would have received one-seventh of the death benefit active duty marine's families received. We need to keep the pressure on! ROA National Convention: Two resolutions from MN ROA were adopted to move forward nationally to our elected officials. One of them is funding continuity for guard and reserve forces during federal budget continuing resolution periods. As many of you know, UTAs and readiness suffer during these times! This issue will now be pressed. Again…need membership to keep the pressure on. Our next Chapter meeting is Saturday 14 October, 1100 hours, Wing Conference Room. Please bring a friend and the issues that affect reservists. In the next couple months, Chapter leadership will be taking a hard look at the downtime policy equity and move forward with a resolution. But we need help vetting and support for the resolution. See you at family day. Erik Sutcliffe President, ROA Flying Viking Chapter
