First Retirement Check

First Retirement Check Details » Donate Online

On June 29, 1948, President Harry Truman signed into law PL810-80, thus providing a retirement system for the Reserve Component. This came after two years of ROA ardently lobbying Congress and DoD to create a retirement program. ROA believed that a retirement program, along with paid training, would provide “…an adequate and efficient Organized Reserve Corps for so long as our country needs such a security force.” {ROA President BG Donald Adams}

Since the signing of this law, ROA members have created a tradition of donating their first retirement check to ROA. A check, they say, they would have not received if it weren’t for ROA’s success on this issue.
