USPHS Service Awards Resolution No. 10-31
WHEREAS, the US Public Health Service, as a uniformed service, is composed of Regular Corps and Reserve Corps officers on active or inactive duty status; and
WHEREAS, the US Public Health Service provides official award recognition based solely on being granted a commission in the United States Public Health Service Regular Corps, but does not provide similar official award or service recognition to active and inactive officers holding a commission in the United States Public Health Service Reserve Corps; and
WHEREAS, US Public Health Service officers in both the Regular Corps and the Reserve Corps contribute as a joint force to the national defense mission while on active and inactive status;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Reserve Officers Association of the United States, chartered by Congress, urge the Congress to direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services, in consultations with the Surgeon General of the United States, to establish The Public Health Service Reserve Corps Medal for all officers who have honorably served a total of two years with a US Public Health Service Reserve Corps commission.
