Domestic Energy Development for Defense
WHEREAS, the Department of Defense is the largest single consumer of fossil fuel in the United States with aviation, armor, logistics and naval forces dependent on fossil fuel;
WHEREAS, the United States is abundant in natural resources and is a global leader in advanced energy technologies; and
WHEREAS, the lack of domestic oil and gas availability adds to a growing dependence on foreign oil; and
WHEREAS, importing over 65 percent of the United States oil requirement, imperils fuel sources for defense, siphons dollars from other defense priorities to fuel, and often funds military adversaries; and
WHEREAS, there is a national debate on energy independence with proposed legislation that could curtail oil and natural gas exploration and drilling;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Reserve Officers Association of the United States, charted by Congress, urge the Congress for reasons of National Security to promote domestic development of fossil fuel and natural gas, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Reserve Officers Association urge the Congress to support legislation to research fuel alternatives for the armed forces.
