Defense Secretary Reveals Strategy for Military Budget
Department of Defense Secretary Leon Panetta outlined his approach to cut military spending on Thursday, January 5. Panetta recommended a smaller and leaner military that is more agile and flexible to meet the challenges of the changing warfare of the 21st century. In his remarks, the Defense Secretary contended that the DoD will structure and pace the reductions in a manner that will reexamine the elements in the active and reserve components, maintain a strong National Guard and Reserve, retain a healthy cadre of officers, and preserve the nation's defense industrial base.
