Jan 20, Northern Mexico is the site of over half of Mexico’s drug-related killings and 85 percent of all US-Mexico trade. The volatile situation in this region carries with it, enormous implications for U.S. policies both foreign and domestic. On 20 January, The Defense Education Forum (DEF) and the Foreign Policy Research Institute hosted a briefing by David Danelo. Drawing on his extensive field research on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, Danelo provided an in-depth briefing on northern Mexico, illustrating the similarities and differences between Mexico’s drug violence and traditional political insurgencies. Noted Mexico and Latin American security scholars provided panel discussion following his presentation.
