The ROA Academy is a training environment that provides professional ROA
leadership training and motivation for ROA Department and Chapter
officers. It provides the knowledge, skills and tools to help Department
and Chapter Presidents, Secretaries, and other leaders to achieve the
greatest possible degree of success during their tenure. Open to all
interested attendees, everyone from National ExCom members to members
with no officially held positions have attended.
The topics
cover information not only for those in official positions, but also for
those simply wanting to know more about ROA’s structure and how it
works. Many return a second and third time for updated information and
to enjoy the networking opportunities offered. The focus of the training
is leadership within ROA. However, the agenda covers numerous other
topics. Attendees learn about Congressional staffers, legislative
advocacy and specifics on how to accomplish a local or regional
legislative program. The Academy is a fast paced, intense program
conducted in con-junction with the ROA Leaders Conference. Departments
and Chapters often subsidize the cost of travel, finding the return on
investment to be worthwhile. Many claim the value of the training is
more than worth the cost.
Academy attendees are invited to join
the Department National Council Members and the National Council to hear
their presentations, as well as participate in other optional Leaders
Conference events such as the evening hospitality suite and Friday night
baseball game.
