21st Century Think Tank Design Workshop

The changing and increasingly complex nature of the world in which we live has forced changes in how those responsible for national policy inquire, engage, and make decisions. The resulting changes have inspired the use of a Systems and Design Thinking methodology to inquiry. On June 1, The Defense Education Forum, the Foreign Policy Research Institute and the Organizational Dynamics Program in the Graduate Division of the University of Pennsylvania will present a workshop aimed at refining methods for designing the optimal 21st century defense/geopolitical think tank. This workshop will apply the Systems and Design Thinking methodology to design a think tank whose insights are created as much from application of systemic thought and open innovation as they are from traditional research. In this session attendees will be asked to engage in an interactive design process, utilizing group insights on structure and purpose while collectively defining the primary functions of an ideal 21st century think tank.
