LEGISLATION AND MILITARY POLICY:
ROA President Meets with Speaker of the House
RADM Paul Kayye, USNR (Ret.) met with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and others Nov 4 at the Capitol Building during a veteran service organization roundtable. ROA drew attention to a number of National Guard and Reserve members who complete 20-year careers, but are not considered veterans without extended periods of active duty. Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) has introduced H.R. 3787 and Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) indroduced S.1780 in the Senate to correct this issue.
TRICARE Access for Gray Area Retirees Possibly Postponed
A Defense Authorization from Congress regarding Tricare Reserve Select coverage access to gray area retirees may not be made available until next year.

MILITARY HISTORY: Nov. 10, 1775 -
During the American Revolution, a committee of the Continental Congress met at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia to draft a resolution calling for two battalions of Marines able to fight for independence at sea and on shore. On Nov. 10, 1775, the resolution was approved, officially forming the Continental Marines. Happy 234th Marine Corps!
