LEGISLATION AND MILITARY POLICY UPDATES: Senate Updates ROA Charter The Senate passed the Reserve Officers Association Modernization Act of 2009 (S.1599) Sept. 25 updating ROA’s congressional charter for the 21st century.

Coast Guard Authorization On Sept. 24, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved a $10 billion Coast Guard Authorization bill (H.R. 3619). The bill authorizes $200 million more in 2010 than requested by President Obama, and includes $6.8 billion for operations and maintenance, $1.6 billion for acquisitions and the authority to increase active duty personnel to 47,000.

Re-energizing ROA for Those Who Serve by RADM Paul Kayye, MC, USNR (Ret.) This past year, ROA National President COL Ladd Pattillo, USAR (Ret.), declared his term as "The Year of the Citizen Warrior." We are still engaged in a global war on terrorism, and no end appears in sight. As of the middle of August, there were 143,105 Guard and Reserve Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guard members on active duty. When we are finished in Iraq and Afghanistan, the world will still be facing the threat of terrorists, as these extremists blatantly remind us.

Feb 7 - 10, 2010, its registration process and fees, and its programs. You probably noticed a couple of significant differences in the usual events, particularly the food events.

Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve honored the Reserve Officers Association with its second highest award, the Pro Patria Award, which is translated "for our nation." MILITARY HISTORY: Oct. 2, 1922 - Years following the end of World War I, several hundred officers, many of them combat veterans, gathered with the General of the Armies, John J. "Black Jack" Pershing at the Willard Hotel in Washington, D.C., on October 2, 1922, to formally recognize the Reserve Officers Association (ROA) as an organization. This week ROA celebrates its 87th anniversary.
