EDUCATION UPDATES: North Dakota National Security Symposium On Sept. 24 and 25, DEF will again team up with the Partnership for a Secure America (PSA) and the Center for Naval Analysis (CNA) in presenting a series of panel discussion aimed at maintaining a national dialogue on the science of climate change, the impacts of prospective energy reform, and the effects of nuclear non-proliferation across multiple venues, as the Congress prepares to act on new legislation.

Heritage Foundation's The United States Air Force Reserve: Current Challenges and Practical Solutions The Heritage Foundation will host a public lecture featuring Lt. Gen. Charles E. Stenner, Chief of the Air Force Reserve and Commander of the Air Force Reserve Command, at the Lehrman Auditorium in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m.

SERVICEMEMBER LAW CENTER UPDATE: Section 4311 of USERRA is Not Limited to Reserve Components Under USERRA, the prohibition of discrimination in employment based on service in the uniformed services applies to anyone who has ever served in or applied to join a uniformed service.

LEGISLATION AND MILITARY POLICY UPDATES: ROA Charter Changes The ROA Technical Corrections bill was introduced in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The bill, H.R. 3581, is to amend title 36, United States Code, to include in the Federal charter of the Reserve Officers Association leadership positions newly added in its constitution and bylaws. The bill, which is identical to S.1599, was introduced by Rep. Howard Coble (R-N.C.), and Rep. Chris Carney (D-Pa.), was the chief Democrat. Rep. Gary Miller (R-Calif.), was also listed as an original cosponsor. The Senate version made it through mark-up, and awaits action on the Senate Floor.
