July 1, 2009
My dear fellow members of ROA, An ancient saying, "May you live in interesting times" can either be a blessing or a curse. My year as your president of the Reserve Officers Association has certainly been interesting. It's also been a challenge with some success. The realities of our financial situation were difficult enough prior to the world financial crisis. With the help of the Executive Committee, trustees, and ROA staff, I have taken prudent steps to protect ROA assets and preserve the ability to pursue our chartered purpose of promoting strong national defense politices. I consider this the greatest accomplishment for ROA during my tenure. This will be my last e-blast to you. After the convention next week, Admiral Paul Kayye will begin sending his communications to you. It has been a true honor to be President of the Reserve officers association for this year, and I look forward to continuing my dedication and support to our great association. Sincerely, D. Ladd Patillo Colonel, USAR (Ret.) National President 2008-2009
2009 President's Report
ROA Executive Director becomes Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs (June 30) It is with a mixture of pride and regret that I announce my resignation as your Executive Director, effective 1 July 2009. The President has appointed me Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, with the advice and consent of the United States Senate. None of that would have happened if I had not had the opportunity and privilege to work for the Reserve Officers Association of the United states over these past four years.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK: Lt. Col. Phillip "Hoss" Kennedy was one of many 920th Rescue Wing members who welcomed the commanding general of 10th Air Force, Brig. Gen. Thomas Coon, during a visit to the wing. Before the flight, the general received a tour of the aircraft from Colonel Kennedy, seen here explaining the finer points of a .50-caliber machine gun.
