LEGISLATION AND MILITARY POLICY UPDATES: ROA Pushes Legislative Agenda with HASC (June 10) Today, ROA met with representatives from the House Armed Services Committee. The meeting focused on initiatives dealing with reserve funds in budget resolution that affect provisions in the 2010 NDAA, including changes to early retirement, gray area access to TRICARE Reserve Select, SBP/DIC repeal, and Concurrent Receipt.

ROA To Testify in Front of SAC-D (June 18) Col. Will Holahan, USMC (Ret.), ROA’s Member Services Director, will be testifying before the Senate Appropriations subcommittee on defense June 18. ROA will also be the spokesman for the Associations for America’s Defense at the same hearing. The embargoed testimony for each will be available at ROA’s Web site after the all-day hearing.
EDUCATION UPDATES: Air Force Reserve Modernization DEF Program A Defense Education Forum program solely focused on the Air Force Reserve will discuss the complexities, challenges and successes of modernizing the Air Force Reserve Monday, June 22, at 9:45 a.m. at the Reserve Officers Association Minuteman Memorial Building.

TAPS: ROA Mourns Loss of Medal of Honor Recipent and Member MAJ George E. Wahlen, AUS (Ret.), an ROA Life Member, passed away June 5. He was honored as a Medal of Honor recipient as a Navy Corpsman in World War II.

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE: ROA Long Timers Certificate Available Online The Long Timers Certificate may be awarded to qualifying members after 25 years of membership and then is awardable for recognition again every 5 year period thereafter. It is now available to Departments, Chapters, and individual members to access in a downloadable pdf format. It can be found in the Member Resources area of the ROA Web site. Member Services is available to re-confirm, should members wish to do so, their number of years of qualifying ROA membership. Of course if members know their years of qualified ROA membership it is not necessary for them to contact Member Services. The contact in Member Services is Richard Booth at 800-809-9448 Ext. 731.
