INTERNATIONAL AFFILIATION: U.S. Ambassador to NATO Thanks CIOR Reps Representing the American delegation to the Interallied Confederation of Reserve Officers and Medical Reserve Officers, MG Robert Smith and MG Robert Kasulke respectively, visited with representatives to the U.S. Mission to NATO, receiving thanks from the ambassador in March.
Click here to view the thank you notes Secretary General of NATO To Address Reserve Officers The Secretary-General of NATO, His Excellency Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, will address the Reserve Officers of CIOR May 18 at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. On the same day, CIOR will officially unveil the CIOR-60 Monument. Members of ROA living or traveling in Europe should consider attending.

LEGISLATION AND MILITARY POLICY UPDATES: VA To Accept Applications for Post-9/11 GI Bill Program Beginning this Friday, May 1, the VA Education Service will begin taking applications to determine servicemembers’ eligibility for the Post-9/11 GI Bill program.

MEMBERSHIP UPDATES: ROA Announces Winners for 2008-2009 Level 1 (Sustaining Chapters) CA - 63, Santa Clara County IL - 06, Cook County IL - 39, Springfield IL - 48, Fort Sheridan FL - 27, Marco Naples The sustaining category is the highest level of award recognition for Chapters. Each chapter will receive a streamer at the National Convention in Orlando. These five are the winning Chapters selected by an awards review board chaired by Col Phil Reiss.

Their efforts at improving conditions for homeless veterans have many local opportunities for support as well. Are You a Reserve Officer in State Legislature? The National Network of Legislators in the Military (NNLM) are taking a survey of currently serving military members who are a state legislator. State legislators who currently serve in the National Guard or the Military Reserves are in a unique position while serving both their state and our nation. Last year, the NNLM identified 74 state legislators who were serving in both capacities. This year’s survey attempts to update information from these legislators, as well as identify new NNLM members.
