Maj. Gen. Doug Stone, incoming commander of Marine Forces Reserve and former Deputy Commander for Detainee Ops in Iraq, will speak at a joint service luncheon.

EDUCATION UPDATE: Upcoming DEF Program: The Accidental Guerrila The Heritage Foundation and the Reserve Officer Association will host a luncheon discussion with Dr. David Kilcullen to discuss his new book, The Accidental Guerilla: Fighting Small Wars in the Midst of a Big One at Rayburn House in Room B-340 on Friday, May 1, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Dr. Kilcullen, a former officer in the Australian Defense Force and senior counterinsurgency advisor to General David Petraeus, has combined his decades of experience to help conceptualize how the numerous “small wars” that span the globe are interconnected with the broader Global War on Terrorism. ROA NEWS TAPS: ROA Mourns Death of Former Deputy Executive Director Col. Herman Frankel, USA (Ret.), formerly of Silver Spring, Md., died April 12, 2009 in Dallas, Texas, at 86. He served as the Deputy Executive Director and the Army Director at the Reserve Officers Association in Washington, D.C. Herman Frankel will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., with full military honors at 9 a.m. on July 16. There will also be a memorial service in his honor at 2 p.m. on May 11, at the Classic Residence by Hyatt, 5455 La Sierra Drive, Dallas, Texas 75231. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Herman's memory to the Reserve Officers Association.

National Convention for Veterans at ROA Headquarters May 13-14 National Convention for Veterans will be held at the Reserve Officers Association National Headquarters Building May 13-14. The Convention will advance a comprehensive veterans' platform and raise the priority for veterans in our nation's agenda. The two-day program will feature the following: National Veterans' Leaders from Around the Country, Leading Members of the United States Congress, Highly Credentialed and Outspoken Speakers and Panel Members on the Subjects Veterans' Advocacy, National Defense and Budgetary/Spending Reform, and Continuous Media Opportunities with Nation and Regional Outlets.

Register for the 17th Annual Military & Civilian Combat Stress Conference The 17th Annual International Military and Civilian Combat Stress Conference is scheduled from April 30-May 4, at the Courtyard by Marriott at Marina del Rey in Los Angeles, Calif.
