ROA Expresses Concern with Kagan Nomination for Solicitor General The Reserve Officers Association of the United States has expressed concern over the nomination of Harvard Law School Dean Elena Kagan as Solicitor General of the United States because of her previous support for an effort to undermine the Federal law that allows military recruiting on college campuses.

THIS WEEK IN HISTORY: Feb. 9, 1965: A U.S. Marine Corps Hawk air defense missile battalion is deployed to Da Nang in Vietnam. President Johnson had ordered this deployment to provide protection for the key U.S. airbase there. This was the first commitment of American combat troops in South Vietnam and there was considerable reaction around the world to the new stage of U.S. involvement in the war.
