In compliance with his C&BL requirements, LtGen Dennis McCarthy, Executive Director, is pleased to announce the publication of ROA's 2008 Annual Report. It will provide you a summary and a snap shot of your Association as of Dec. 31, 2008. New to this year's report is a staff directory providing you direct access to your national staff.

Mid-Winter Seminar Showcase Medical Seminar
February 1, 2009, 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
This year's theme is "Advancement in Prevention and Treatment: Increased Survivability in War Casualties." Credit for continuing medical education will be provided by the Office of the Army Surgeon General; credit for continuing health education will be provided by U.S. Army Medical Command. $15 fee to attend (no conference registration required)

Brooklyn Chapter Throws Down Gauntlet for Mid-Winter in Champagne Challenge!!
To spawn friendly chapter rivalry, ROA's Brooklyn Chapter dares any ROA chapter to beat their planned attendance at the Mid-Winter Conference and Reserve Component Expo. Brooklyn currently has 12 of its members registered and a few more "maybe's". Any chapter that can beat their registered attendance will receive a bottle of champagne from Col. Eileen Bonner. Confirmation Hearing Scheduled for Shinseki
A confirmation hearing for Veterans Affairs Secretary Designee General Eric Shinseki, USA (Ret.), is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan 14, 10 a.m., in 418 Russell Senate Office Building.
Two Key People To Extend with the Obama Administration
Secretary Thomas Hall (Assistant Secretary of Defense, Reserve Affairs) and Dr. Gordon Sumner (Executive Director of the National Committee on Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve) have been invited by the new administration to remain in place through the transition.

ROA NEWS:
Former ROA Executive Director Passes
Maj. Gen. J. Milnor Roberts, former Chief of Army Reserve, and Executive Director of the Reserve Officers Association, passed away at 5:20 p.m. January 2, 2009. Most recently, ROA hosted a tribute dinner for General Roberts. ROA sends its deepest condolences to family and friends of General Roberts.
Memorial Service is scheduled on Sunday, January 11 at noon. It will run until 2 p.m., at the John Murphy Funeral Home at 4510 Wilson Boulevard in Arlington, Va. Internment will be at the Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors on Thursday, March 12 at 1 p.m. at the Ft. Myer Memorial Chapel (please note, not the Old Post Chapel).

Nomination Season Open for 2009 Employer Support Freedom Award
The Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. government to employers for their support of National Guard and Reserve employees. The nomination process is open to all Guard and Reserve personnel and their families. To nominate an employer, complete an online application on the ESGR Web site before 6 p.m. (EST) on Jan. 19, 2009. Nominations must come from a Guard or Reserve member who is employed by the organization they are nominating, or a family member of the employee.
