ROA Attends White House Debt Ceiling Briefing ROA was invited to a White House briefing Monday for an explanation of the then developing, debt ceiling agreement. ROA representatives expressed concern over potential across the board defense cuts.
Details of the Briefing
ROA meets with Deputy Director of TRICARE Management Activity Representatives from ROA recently met with Rear Admiral Christine Hunter, for a briefing on the progress of several TRICARE programs. Topics included TRICARE Young Adult coverage, additional vaccinations that will be available at commercial sites at no cost, and changes to military identification to improve personal security.

RC Chiefs Testify, Press for Greater Call-Up Authority Reserve-component leaders testifying last week before the House Armed Services Committee, military personnel subcommittee urged policy changes that would give Defense Secretary Leon Panetta more flexibility in using Guard and reserve members to support theater security cooperation and other military missions; a position ROA has long supported.

VA Subcommittee Finds Unlawful Contracting in Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses A 28 July hearing by the Subcommittee on Oversight & Investigations (OI) revealed that there are 91 pending criminal investigations in the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) program.

General Bockel to Step Down as ROA Executive Director, Accept Position with the Georgia Chamber of Commerce After much consideration, MG David Bockel has decided to accept an offer to be the new executive director of the Georgia Military Affairs Coordinating Committee (GMACC) for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, and will therefore resign from his Executive Director position. His last day of employment will be September 30, 2011.

Army Reserve Command Dedicates New HQ Last week we reported on the opening of the brand new FORSCOM/USARC headquarters at Fort Bragg. The formal dedication took place on 1 August.

 U.S. CIOR Military Competitions Team Training in Hammelburg, Germany Over 250 athletes participate in CIOR’s military pentathlon each year. Established in 1957, it is an internationally recognized competition focused on military skills that challenge the leadership and physical robustness of reservists from across the Alliance and its Partners. The 2011 U.S. team recently completed four days of training in Germany while preparing for this year's competition in Poland.
