Roundtable on Educational Benefits and "For-Profit" Schools ROA executive director MG (Ret.) David Bockel participated in a roundtable discussion with Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) on the rapid
increases in the amount of federal financial aid and other student
assistance programs going to "for-profit" schools. Military educational
benefits received by for-profit schools have risen rapidly but
withdrawal rates at many schools are well above 50%.
Meetings with Sens. Sessions and Inhofe -ROA was briefed by Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) last Thursday about missile defense and budget challenges. -ROA met with Sen. Jim Inhofe’s (R-Okla.) staff to examine ways to include language in the Senate version of National Defense Authorization Act to provide alternative treatments for Traumatic Brain Injury.

CAPT Wright Honored at Military Voting Rights Conference At a recent Heritage conference SMLC director CAPT Sam Wright was honored by former U.S. Attorney General Ed Meese, director of the Federal Voting Assistance Program Bob Carey, and secretary of the Virginia State Board of Elections Donald Palmer for his 35-year effort to reform absentee voting procedures for the benefit of military personnel and their family members.

Wright Patterson AFB Receives C-17s Wright Patterson AFB has received five of eight C-17 cargo planes scheduled for delivery. The C-17s will do double the amount of flights as the ten retired C-5s. ROA continues to advocate procurement of C-17 aircraft and C-5 upgrades for the Reserve Components so they can provide an adequate airlift force.
