ROA, NMVA, A4AD Testify on Force Readiness, Structure and FY2011 RC Budget Executive Director MG David Bockel (representing ROA), CAPT Mike Smith (former ROA National President representing National Military & Veterans Alliance), and CAPT Ike Puzon (representing Associations for America's Defense) testified before the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense. ROA is a member of both NMVA and A4AD and ROA staff wrote most of the three testimonies.

ROA Challenges Position on Agent Orange Coverage for Blue Water Sailors and Blue Sky Airmen At its monthly meeting the VA Advisory Committee on Disability Compensation heard a briefing from the Veterans Benefits Administration about Agent Orange exposure presumptive coverage for Blue Water Sailors. Challenging the Department's position that there is no need for further change, ROA legislative director CAPT Marshall Hanson made a statement as to why Blue Water Sailors and Blue Sky Airmen need to be included. A written statement was also included for the record.

SMLC Meets with Sen. Graham's Office on Support for Pro Bono Legal Assistance Programs Service
Members’ Law Center (SMLC) director CAPT Sam Wright, intern Ryan Shaw
and legislative assistant Elizabeth Cochran met with staff from Sen.
Lindsey Graham’s (R-S.C.) office to discuss the SMLC and to thank the
Senator for cosponsoring the Justice for Troops Act (S.1106) which would
authorize the Department of Defense to provide support, including
financial, for one or more public or private programs for pro bono legal
assistance for members of the Armed Forces. ROA recently sent a letter
of support to Sen. Graham and Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wisc.), who introduced
the bill.

ROA Donates Book Collection to Pritzger Military Library ROA recently donated 1,090 books on military history and heritage to the Pritzker Military Library in Chicago. The books were part of the personal collection of ROA's first national president, Brig. Gen. Henry J. Reilly, and will be prominently displayed among Pritzker's vast collection of military literature. In the Fall, ROA Executive Director MG David Bockel will be on hand for a formal unveiling of the collection.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Academy for International Conflict Management and Peacebuilding provides practitioner-oriented education, training, and resources via facilities at the U.S. Institute of Peace's Washington headquarters, mobile training in conflict zones abroad, and online distance education and training. Academy courses include "Leading Adaptive Teams in Conflict Environments," "Social Reconstruction and Human Security," "Governance and Democratic Practices in War to Peace Transitions," and many more.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK:  REA legislative intern Patricia Contic and ROA legislative intern Courtney Whiteman meet Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D- Calif.) and Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) at Leader Pelosi's quarterly veterans roundtable. Veteran status, employment, family support, mental health care and VA home loans were discussed, and ROA submitted to Leader Pelosi's office papers on Guard & Reserve employment rights and treatments for traumatic brain injury.
