ROA Promotes Treatment for TBI ROA’s executive director and legislative staff, in coordination with The Hon. Martine Hoffman, former Secretary of the Army, has been storming the Hill over the past month advocating for DoD to adopt utilization of hyperbaric chamber treatments, which have been used successfully in the private sector to treat TBI. DoD is studying this issue and results are currently pending.
Meeting with Staff of Sen. Herb Kohl to Discuss the Service Members' Law Center SMLC
Director CAPT Sam Wright and ROA legislative director CAPT Marshall
Hanson met with Sen. Kohl's staff to discuss the mission and services of
the Law Center. Currently CAPT Wright receives upwards of 500 calls per
month on USERRA, SCRA and other military-legal issues. Sen. Kohl has
introduced S.1106, Justice for the Troops, to authorize DoD support for
programs on pro bono legal assistance for members of the Armed Forces.
Minority Leader Pelosi's Veterans Roundtable Legislative
director CAPT Marshall Hanson represented ROA at Minority Leader Nancy
Pelosi's quarterly veterans roundtable. Veteran status, employment,
family support, mental health care and VA home loans were discussed. ROA
submitted to Leader Pelosi's office papers on G&R employment rights
and treatments for TBI.
Senate Mark-Up of NDAA The Senate expects to complete its full mark-up of the NDAA by Friday. The House has already completed its version, and the two chambers’ committees will go into conference to agree on a final version of the bill.
ROA Attends Launch of "Community Blueprint" Initiative Legislative assistant Elizabeth Cochran attended the launch of the initiative which seeks to help local leaders focus support to veterans and their families. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Mike Mullen told attendees communities must be aware and prepared to meet military families' needs and must hold themselves to a high standard of service.

ROA, NMVA, A4AD to Testify at Defense Appropriations Hearing June 22
Executive Director MG David Bockel (representing ROA), CAPT Mike
Smith (National Military & Veterans Alliance), and CAPT Ike Puzon
(Associations for America's Defense) will testify. ROA is a member of
both NMVA and A4AD, and ROA staff wrote most of the three testimonies.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: DoD Surveys Employers of Guardsmen, Reservists A survey was sent to 80,000 employers and results must be submitted by July 6. The survey's purpose is to measure the impact of service members on the civilian workplace.
