Advocacy:  ROA briefs Navy Senior Intelligence Leadership Symposium
At the request of Rep. Gary Miller's (R-Calif) office, ROA Legislative Director, CAPT Marshall Hanson, USNR (Ret.) briefed on legislative issues and grassroots support to the Navy Senior Intelligence Leadership Symposium "Capitol Hill" Day last week.

ROA Letter of Support
ROA sent letters to Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R, Fla.) and House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R, Mich.) and Ranking Member Sander Levin (D, Mich.) in support of Rep. Bilirakis' bill H.R.1570 that provides tax credit to employers for the value of service not performed during the period employees are serving as members of the Ready Reserve or National Guard.

U.S. Coast Guard Hearing
ROA attended the Senate Appropriations subcommittee on Homeland Security's hearing regarding the U.S. Coast Guard budget in which Minuteman of the Year Awardee, ROA member and Commandant of the Coast Guard Admiral Robert J. Papp, Jr. testified. He testified that the Coast Guard is at an 'inflection point' in which decisions today will sustain the Coast Guard to be capable or will be diminished in force and less capable. He further said the results of the stem to stern review will be forthcoming soon, investment must be in recapitalization with ships on average being 40 years old, and encouraged the use of security teams on ships to ward off pirates. In addition while funding for family housing was expanded it is still a problematic area and the USCG is 'clearly at the bottom of the ladder'.
