LEGISLATION AND MILITARY POLICY: TRICARE Retired Reserve Implementation May Slide ROA attended a briefing by TRICARE Management Activity (TMA) last week, where implementation of TRICARE Retired Reserve was discussed. Due to red tape, it is possible that TRICARE for gray area retirees will slide out further into the late fall, with TMA admitting that the suggested Oct. 1 start date is "soft".

ROA Attends NMFA Summit with the First Lady Keynote ROA attended and participated in working groups at the National Military Family Association’s (NMFA) summit “When Parents Deploy: Understanding the Experiences of Military Children and Spouses” held May 12.

ROA Meets with Speaker Pelosi, Chairman Skelton ROA participated in a roundtable discussion of veteran issues with Democratic leadership. ROA's Legislative Director CAPT Marshall Hanson talked about how the Pentagon doesn’t follow-up on passed legislation in a timely enough fashion, and he also supported obtaining veteran status for serving Reservists who reach 20 years of service without being activated for over 180 days.
EDUCATION: DEF Presents Conference on US-China Maritime Relations DEF and the Foreign Policy Research Institute (FPRI) presented a conference to examine the current and future state of US-China maritime relations May 13. The session addressed the prospects for conflict and accommodation, the merits of the each party's claims, and the significance of these issues for broader US-China relations.
