LEGISLATION AND MILITARY POLICY:
Ensure TRICARE exemption from National Health Care Bill
ROA recommends writing to your elected officials to include language during the conference to add a TRICARE and Veteran health care exemption, by protecting the health care authorities in Title 10 and Title 38.

Stop Reduction in TRICARE Physician’s Fees

ROA has also been tracking a possible 21.2 percent cut in fees paid to Medicare physicians. TRICARE physicians’ fees are based on the same Medicare fee schedule. This will affect Active Duty families, Serving Reservists, retirees and their families.

HISTORY:
Jan. 10, 1944 - On this day, the Servicemen's Readjustment Act - commonly known as the GI Bill of Rights - was introduced in the House. The GI Bill of Rights provided millions of veterans with education and vocational training benefits and home loan guarantees, and it was perhaps the largest contributing factor in the creation of the U.S. middle class in the years following WWII.

CORRECTIONS:  1/12/10: THE INTERSECT

ROA apologizes to its members for two articles that slipped through our editing review this week

Item #1 The article on Defense Appropriations spending was too partisan and published by a partisan publication. While factual, it crossed the line of ROA being a non-partisan organization.

Item #2 was a column that has been published on a number of blogs.  This article, which suggest that Congress is threatening TRICARE For Life coverage,  uses information from a viral e-mail that is over a year old, and based on some inaccurate assumptions.  ROA regrets that its inclusion has aroused new anxieties among members during the closing weeks of the debate on a National Health Care plan, however  ROA Headquarters has learned that a promised military and veterans health care exemption is not as extensive as originally promised.

Where's My ROA Calendar?
Because ROA's direct mailing partner, Barton Cotton, went bankrupt, ROA no longer solicits donations using gimmicks such as address labels, cards or the annual calendar. For those members who are calling looking for the calendar, ROA no longer has the capability to produce one without entering into another direct mail agreement: a decision that was decided against at the urging of members. ROA calendars will not be mailed for 2010. ROA's new annual giving program is through the Sustaining Member Program.
