From: Kaaren J. Teuber, Lt Col, USAFR (ret)
I invite you to our next meeting on Saturday, May 4th, and my last one as President of Dallas ROA Chapter 18. Our guest speaker is CPT Tilford Jones, USA, who served during the Korean War. This completes my goal of remembering those who have served in past wars, “lest we forget” – World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. Upon graduation from Texas A&M, Jones was commissioned a 2nd Lt in the U.S. Army Infantry. Then WAR broke out. In August of 1950, as a 1st Lt, he was given three days’ notice to report to San Francisco for a flight to Tokyo and from Tokyo an overnight boat trip to Korea. He was assigned as the 2nd Platoon leader, “G” Company, 35th Regiment, 25th Division. He joined his unit when they broke out of the Pusan perimeter and were policing the hills for North Korean soldiers around Taejon. His unit proceeded north to within 2 miles of the Yalu River before being overrun by the Chinese, and they withdrew to Suwon. Captain Jones will tell us the rest of the story – the battles, the cold, and the injuries. In Korea, he received the Combat Infantry Badge, Silver Star, Bronze Star (for valor), Purple Heart, American Defense Medal, Korean Theater Medal with 5 Battle Stars, and the UN Ribbon. Jones is the Secretary of the Korean War Veterans Association (KWVA), Chapter 270 (Sam Johnson Chapter), KWVA State Commander of Texas, and National Director of the KWVA. There will also be a short DVD on the Korean War. His wife Sue will be accompanying him Saturday evening. Also on the agenda are chapter elections and installation of our new chapter officers. Please RSVP by calling Marc Marin at 214-864-8841 or e-mail marin10470@aol.com.
