The Defense Education Forum (DEF) of the Reserve Officers Association (ROA) in sponsorship with the Foreign Policy Research Institute (FPRI) invite you to the following:
The Future of Professional Military Education
On April 18, 2012 the Foreign Policy Research Institute (FPRI) will present a workshop of leading authorities to discuss the current states of professional military education (PME) in the United States. The education of military officers is an important element of national security decision making and civil-military relations, but much debate surround how to educate strategic leaders.
This workshop will feature Dr. Joan Johnson-Freese, professor of national security affairs (NSA) at the US Naval War College (USNWC), and her Winter 2012 Orbis article "The Reform of Military Education: Twenty-Five Years Later." Her presentation will open the discussion and debate of the current state of PME to a panel moderated by Dr. Mac Owen, professor of NSA at USNWC, FPRI senior fellow, and editor of Orbis. Panelists will include Tom Ricks, senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS); Major General Robert Scales (USA, ret.), formerly Commandant of the US Army War College; and, Colonel Scott A. Sauter (USAFR), Deputy Director of Training Program Management at the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Reserve Affairs.
