For more than a decade, Reserve Component members have been an integral part of the operational force in Iraq and Afghanistan; reflecting a new era in force management. With their increased utilization, often for extended periods, one must also keep in mind that these forces are citizen-soldiers. The vast majority are employed in civilian jobs in addition to their military service. Their mobilization raises various questions that must be dealt with by the service member and their employer. Hardships can occur for both.
This program will explore the relationship between their civilian employer and the service member: what the problems are that they mutually face and what balance might be achieved.
