Our featured speaker is U.S. Congressman Ralph Hall, 4th District. Congressman Hall was born in Fate, Texas on May 3, 1923. His mother was a school teacher and his father worked on pipelines. He graduated Rockwall High School in 1941 and started work as a bulldozer operator. Within a few months World War II started. He joined the U.S. Navy and began training to be a Navy pilot. He completed his Operations Training at Daytona Beach Florida and was presented his wings. On that same day he married Mary Ellen Murphy. As a Lieutenant (senior grade), he served as a carrier pilot on the CV Ranger in the Atlantic Ocean. He then served in the Pacific on several aircraft carriers including the CVE Corregidor, Solomon Island and last on the CVE Copahee when the war ended. He obtained his law degree from SMU and passed the bar in 1951. Between 1950 and 1962, he served as County Judge of Rockwall County. In 1958-1959, he served as President of the State Judges and Commissioners Association. He served in the Texas Senate from 1962 to 1972, where he served as President Pro Tem of the Senate in 1968-1969. In 1980 Congressman Ray Roberts retired and Ralph Hall ran for Congress, Fourth Congressional District and won. He has been re-elected to each succeeding Congress. He currently is the Chairman Emeritus of the Science and Technology Committee and is the Senior Member of the Energy and Commerce Committee. On December 25, 2012, he became the oldest-serving Member of the U.S. House of Representatives in history.
