California's Coast Guard Chapter 43 – The Bud & Betty Sparks Chapter (formerly Southern California) – has now merged with the Northern California Chapter 34. Both were created to serve as an unique ROA chapter for the smaller numbers of Coast Guard Reservists and Retirees in the State. Recognizing that the voice of the Service is sometimes a small part of larger, multi-service chapters, Chapter 43 deals exclusively with Coast Guard issues that affect members throughout California and Nevada as well as Coast Guard-specific issues that can more readily be addressed by a group such as this. In this way, issues of the Coast Guard can be raised to higher levels within the ROA organization and addressed on equal terms with the rest of the membership at large.
The Chapter is actively looking for new and existing members that are interested in the USCGR and how they can help to make it better. Anyone wishing to attend meetings at your local unit, Sector, or District are encouraged to contact CAPT Rafael A. Ortiz, USCGR at ffpmORTIZ@gmail.com or on his cell at 661-810-2230. The chapter is also looking for people willing to sponsor or support activities as well.
