I have the honor of representing the Reserve Officers Association (ROA), Department of Florida as its President through April 2014.
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Villanova University and have served in the Army as an enlisted member under the Scientific and Professional military occupational specialty. In 1959, I received a direct commission in the Coast Guard Reserve and retired as a Commander with 21 years of service. My civilian occupation mostly involved chasing fraud, waste and abuse nationally and internationally.
ROA believes that national strength can influence international affairs and secure peace by assuring credible, powerful, modern, and well equipped armed forces. Accordingly, ROA advises the Congress to achieve this objective.
Our Department has more than 3,000 men and women as members. Personally, membership helped greatly when a job transfer occurred, since it provided me with an immediate cadre of friends in the new location.
Currently, our members provide support to service members returning from combat areas through the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program sponsored by the 81st RSC, Fort Jackson, S.C. and held in Orlando, FL. We support other Veteran organizations and frequently, our luncheon and dinner Chapter meetings have these organizations’ members in attendance. We support our ROTC and JROTC programs at local high schools throughout the State by providing medals to their program participants.
To all who read this message, a very hardy WELCOME!
CDR Fred J. Koppenhafer, USCG (Ret)
